- Page 14 – Hidden in the painting: The upside down astronaut is actually the future Tori seen in Max Goes to Jupiter. Can you find Neil Armstrong?
- Page 11 – Hidden in the painting: Can you find the face of the sheep in the smoke? A sheep was one of the “crew” of the first hot air balloon to carry animals in 1783. The other passengers were a rooster and a duck. Also notice: When Sally Ride became the first American woman to go into space aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger, many people in the audience at Cape Kennedy held signs that read, “Ride, Sally, Ride!” This was also the title of a popular song. Can you see our own version for Max? For a glimpse of the artist, take a look at the guy holding the sign. (Nice hat, huh?)
- Page 16 – The bearded astronaut on the left is Alan Okamoto, beloved and talented artist who illustrated the books “Max Goes to the Moon” and “Max Goes to Mars”.

- Page 18 – Hidden in the painting: Can you see a medieval castle? What’s it doing there? It seems like everything is upside down!
- Page 20 – The man handing out the award is Astronaut Alvin Drew, who helped start the Story Time From Space program and suggested many of the ideas in this book. See his photo on p. 2 of the book.

- Page 24-25 – Hidden in the painting: Unless Commander Grant is a time traveler, there is something in the scene that cannot be there. Can you find it?
- Page 26 – Look again for artist Alan Okamoto (who also appears on p. 16), and the upside down astronaut next to Max is author Jeffrey Bennett! Can you find the hidden doggie bone? What color is the hair of the astronaut who is taking the photo? (Hint: who is missing?)
- Page 28-29 – Hidden in the painting: Max has left a trail of his paw prints. Can you find them?
